Corrections
Every page here is a dated reading of documents that can change. This page says what we do when they do, and what we do when we were simply wrong.
What triggers a change
- A maker publishes, revises or withdraws a data sheet, safety data sheet, test report or registration we cite.
- A marketplace listing changes its pack size, price, seller or title in a way that affects a record. We already show both readings when a pack size moved between two dates.
- A reader, maker or seller shows us a document we did not have, or a reading error we made.
- A code edition, standard or rule we cite is superseded.
What we do
We change the record, update the read date on the affected page, and, where the change reverses something we said, add a note saying what was said before and why it changed. We do not silently rewrite a finding. The research notes behind these pages are kept as dated files in the site's source repository; they are not all cited on the pages yet, and connecting each page to the note behind it is work in progress.
What we do not do
We do not remove an open question because a maker would prefer it gone. An open question closes when the document that answers it is in the record. We do not adjust a score, mark or position in response to anything other than evidence.
How to report an error
Use the submissions channel, which opens with the mailbox named on that page. Tell us the page, the sentence, and what the correct statement is, with the document that supports it if there is one. A report that identifies a specific sentence is the one we can act on fastest, and every fix is dated.
