Tools around the can · Listings read September 8, 2026
The tools decide how much of a can reaches the wall and whether the gun survives to the next job. This page lists what the brands and the generic sellers offer, what the makers document about them, and, for cleaners, what is actually in the can according to the safety data sheet.
The Stanley T244 safety data sheet carries the signal word Danger and three hazard statements: H222 extremely flammable aerosol, H319 causes serious eye irritation, H336 may cause drowsiness or dizziness. It prints a flash point of 24 C, which is 75 F, and warns that the pressurized container must not be pierced or burned even when empty or stored above 122 F. Its protection section asks for gloves, chemical goggles or a face shield to EN 166, protective clothing, and respiratory equipment where ventilation is poor. Every cleaner sheet we hold says cured polyurethane has to come off mechanically, and that the solvent may damage sensitive surfaces.
Guns
A threaded gun replaces the straw. It gives a bead you can set and a trigger you can feather, and on the systems that allow it the can stays attached between sessions: DuPont says up to 30 days for a Great Stuff PRO can on its own gun, and other makers set their own limits, so read the can you are buying. DuPont also publishes the bead range for its gun, 1/8 in to 3 in, and the habit that keeps any gun alive: never leave one attached to an empty can unless it has been cleaned. Listed by how many Amazon ratings each one has, and the unbranded guns are far ahead of the brand ones.

Cleaners
A foam cleaner is a solvent aerosol with a spray tip and a thread that screws onto the gun to flush it. We hold safety data sheets for two of them. Stanley T244 breaks its contents down: ethyl acetate, acetone and a liquefied petroleum gas propellant, classed extremely flammable, and it also carries eye-irritation and drowsiness statements. DuPont publishes an SDS for Great Stuff Foam Cleaner, the most-bought one here, under two document numbers; we link it and have not yet pulled its composition. Every sheet we hold says the same thing about the job: it works on wet foam only, and cured foam has to be cut or scraped off. Listed by how many Amazon ratings each one has, and most brand cleaners are not sold there at all.

Gun hygiene, from the makers' own instructions
These are the Great Stuff PRO instructions, the fullest set we hold: shake the new can for at least 60 seconds, never leave a gun without a can attached unless it has been thoroughly cleaned, and store the can upright on the gun with the flow screw closed. Check the equivalent lines on the can you own.
Stanley, Kraken Bond and Akfix each say the same thing on their cleaner sheets: if more than a week passes between applications, remove the can, flush the adapter with cleaner for at least five seconds, and clean the nozzle.
DuPont’s cleaner page says that if the gun is used daily, purge it with cleaner weekly. Its gun page adds: set the bead with the flow knob before spraying and test it into a waste container first.
Every one of those steps sprays two things at once: an extremely flammable solvent, and uncured foam residue that still contains isocyanate. Uncured one-component foam is an isocyanate-based product, and the exposure that matters is while it is still wet. Do this outdoors or with the ventilation the can asks for, wear the gloves and eye protection the cleaner sheet lists, purge into a container you can throw away rather than onto the ground, and keep the whole operation away from any ignition source. None of the cleaner sheets we hold sets a re-entry time, because they assume you are working in open air.
Questions
No, and you cannot use one: a straw can has no thread and a gun can has no straw. A straw can dispenses through its own tube, and how long it stays usable after that first press is a per-product statement. DuPont says a Great Stuff can with the straw applicator will seal shut if it sits more than two hours, and that a PRO can may stay on the gun for up to 30 days with the flow screw closed. Other makers set their own limits, so read the can.
Solvents and a propellant. The Stanley T244 safety data sheet lists ethyl acetate at 30 to 40 percent, acetone at 20 to 30 percent and liquefied petroleum gas at 1 to 15 percent. It classes the can H222 extremely flammable aerosol, H319 causes serious eye irritation and H336 may cause drowsiness or dizziness, under the signal word Danger, and prints a flash point of 24 C, which is 75 F. Kraken Bond and Akfix say "solvent mixture" on their technical sheets without a breakdown. The sheet asks for gloves and chemical goggles or a face shield, good ventilation, and respiratory protection where the ventilation is not enough. Keep it off skin, keep it away from any ignition source, and do not pierce or burn the can even when it is empty.
The three sheets we hold all say no. Stanley T244, Kraken Bond TE 101 and Akfix 800C each state that the product is for uncured foam, that cured foam has to be removed mechanically, and that the solvent may damage sensitive surfaces. Read the sheet for the cleaner you buy; the cleaner is for fresh foam and for flushing the gun.
Kraken Bond, Sprayman, Akfix and Stanley each sell a brand gun, with 23 to 53 ratings each. Kraken Bond and Akfix describe theirs as aluminum with a PTFE coating; the other two sheets do not say what the body is. On Amazon the four ran $25.72 to $51.61 on September 8, and $29.90 to $29.99 on their own stores. Great Stuff PRO 14 has 572 ratings at $55.90. The generic guns that lead the category on feedback, Preciva with 8,044 ratings at $16.34 and Lytool with 2,177 at $14.62, are the same design class at a lower price and with no maker document.
Vega Bond says its nozzles fit only Vega Bond gun and hose assemblies. Froth-Pak sells 25-packs of its own helical cone and fan nozzles, and its rule is blunt: once a nozzle has sat idle for half a minute it is scrap, so fit a fresh one. Treat two-component nozzles as system parts.
Prices and ratings were read on September 8, 2026; brand-store prices are quoted as text and dated. We have no relationship with any maker on this page and earn nothing from these links today. A one-component gun will not fit a two-component kit, and a two-component gun will not fit a can.
